Lapsed Certification

If your certification has lapsed you will not be able to access your MVMA account to renew certification online. Certification renewals must be mailed to the MVMA office. If you are unsure of your expiration date or have any other questions, please contact [email protected] or call the MVMA at 651-645-7533.

Before you Renew Your Lapsed Certification

1. Review Continuing Education Guidelines and MN Vet Tech Renewal Requirements
2. Assess CE certificate(s) to determine medical (scientific) vs non - medical (scientific) and interactive vs non - interactive.  ***Make sure your name and date are on ALL CE certificates.
3. Submit an itemized list of CE lectures attended for state and national conferences that offer medical & non-medical CE.
4.  If applicable, fill out Non Pre-approved (In-Hospital) CE form.  *Maximum of 3 non-preapproved CE credits allowed per MVMA guidelines for recertification.
5. Mail the appropriate renewal form along with copies of CE certificates to the MVMA office.


To Renew Your Lapsed Certification

  • Complete the Continuing Education Report Form and attach copies of your CE Certificates (DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS!). Please list courses attended on the form. You must be detailed and complete the form in its entirety. Incomplete forms will not be processed. All forms will need to be mailed to the MVMA office.
  • If recent credits are obtained outside of the certification period, the credits cannot be reused for the next recertification period. 
  • CE credits for the next renewal period must be obtained after the submission date of the previous report. (ie. submitted 2018 renewal on 2/16/2019; must submit CE after 2/16/2019 for 2020 renewal).
  • The credentialing committee will meet to review individual submissions received and reserve the right to ask for additional documentation and/or deny any CE courses/credits.
  • You will not receive new certification materials until your renewal has been reviewed and accepted by the credentialing committee.
  • Credits for renewal must either be attained from the lapsed certification renewal period or from current CE courses.
    • 2024 Renewals: July 1, 2022 - June 30, 2024
    • 2023 Renewals: July 1, 2021 - June 30th, 2023
    • 2022 Renewals: July 1, 2020 - June 30th, 2022
    • 2021 Renewals: July 1, 2019 - June 30th, 2021
    • 2020 Renewals: July 1, 2018 - September 30, 2020 (extension due to COVID)
    • 2019 Renewals: July 1, 2017 - June 30, 2019
    • 2018 Renewals : July 1, 2016 - June 30, 2018
    • 2017 Renewals : July 1, 2015 - June 30, 2017
    • 2016 Renewals: July 1, 2014 - June 30, 2016

Renew Lapsed Certification Options

Option 1. Pay the recertification fee(s), including late fee(s), and turn in your CE credits, including late credits for each two-year period you are behind. Penalty credits must come from an interactive and medical (scientific) sources

Option 2. If you are significantly behind, you are allowed to retake the VTNE to start your certification over. Please review the current VTNE guidelines through the AAVSB website.
