Minnesota Veterinary Technician Certification Renewal Requirements to Maintain Certification:

**If you submitted your certification renewal after May 1, 2023, reviews will be 12+ weeks due to the influx of submissions. Thank you for your patience. If you choose to expedite your renewal, please see below. 

10 Continuing education credits are required per 2-year cycle of renewal (Certifications are based on odd & even year schedules).

Before you renew:

1. Review Continuing Education Guidelines and MN Vet Tech Renewal Requirements
2. Assess CE certificate(s) to determine medical vs non - medical and interactive vs non - interactive.
3. Please add your name and date on ALL CE certificates.
4. Submit an itemized list of CE courses for state and national conferences (if CE certificate states medical and non - medical).
5. If applicable, fill out Non-Preapproved (In-Hospital) CE form.  *Maximum of 3 non-preapproved CE credits allowed per MVMA guidelines for recertification.

Two Options to Renew: 

1. Online Option:

  • Online renewing for 2023 renewal is no longer available
    • Please visit:  https://www.mvma.org/lapsed-certification 
      Complete the Late 2023 CE Report Form and attach your CE Certificates to submission form and mail copies of CE Certificates to MVMA office(DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS). Please list courses attended on the form. You must be detailed and complete the form in its entirety. Incomplete forms will not be processed. 
    • Continuing education credits for renewal will be allowed after this date: 7/1/2021 (or date of submission if renewed late for 2021 renewal)
    • NEW! Printed certification card available for a small fee. Access online card on your profile page.
    • NEW! Expediting Fee ($100) available for submissions to be reviewed in 5-7 business days (versus the standard 8+ weeks)

2. Mail Option

  • Please visit:  https://www.mvma.org/lapsed-certification 
      • Complete the Late 2023 CE Report Form and attach your CE Certificates to submission form and mail copies of CE Certificates to MVMA office.  (DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS). Please list courses attended on the form. You must be detailed and complete the form in its entirety. Incomplete forms will not be processed.  
    • Continuing education credits for renewal will be allowed after this date: 7/1/2021 (or date of submission if renewed late for 2021 renewal)
    • NEW! Printed certification card available for a small fee. Access online card on your profile page.
    • NEW! Expediting Fee ($100) available for submissions to be reviewed in 5-7 business days from the time renewal is received in the office (versus the standard 8+ weeks). 

The credentialing subcommittee will review individual submissions received and reserve the right to ask for additional documentation and/or deny any CE courses/credits. You will not receive your certification letter and report until your renewal has been reviewed and accepted by the committee. Certification materials are only mailed (not emailed).

**Please review the Continuing Education Guidelines carefully. It is the responsibility of each technician to submit the required credits for renewal **

Please note: The recertification process is NOT part of MAVT's (Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians) member fees.

We encourage all CVT's to become a member of MAVT and join one of their various committees!
