Certification Renewal Process

Minnesota Veterinary Technician Certification Renewal Requirements to Maintain Certification:

10 Continuing education credits are required per 2-year cycle of renewal (Certifications are based in on odd & even year schedules). If you have questions regarding your expiration date, you may reference your Certification Card or contact us at 651-645-7533 or [email protected].

The 2020 Renewal period is July 1, 2018 - June 30, 2020. Renewals submitted after June 30, 2020, require a late fee of $40.00 plus additional 5 medical and interactive CE credits. All late renewals will need to be mailed into the MVMA office.

Before you renew:

1. Review Continuing Education Guidelines and MN Vet Tech Renewal Requirements
2. Assess CE certificate(s) to determine medical vs non - medical and interactive vs non - interactive. ***Please add your name and date on ALL CE certificates.
3. Submit an itemized list of CE courses for state and national conferences (if CE certificate states medical and non - medical).
4.  If applicable, fill out Non-Preapproved (In-Hospital) CE form.  *Maximum of 3 in-hospital credits allowed per MVMA guidelines for recertification.

Two Options to Renew: 

1. Online Option: (preferred method - save $15.00)

2. Mail Option:

    • 2020 Renewal Form (a $15 processing fee is applied to all mailed 2020 submissions)
      • Complete the 2020 CE Report Form and attach copies of your CE Certificates (DO NOT SEND ORIGINALS). Please list courses attended on the form. You must be detailed and complete the form in its entirety. Incomplete forms will not be processed.  Credits for renewal must be obtained within the current certification period:

The credentialing subcommittee will review individual submissions received and reserve the right to ask for additional documentation and/or deny any CE courses/credits. You will not receive new certification materials until your renewal has been reviewed and accepted by the committee. 

**Please review the Continuing Education Guidelines carefully. It is the responsibility of each technician to submit the required credits for renewal **

Please note: The recertification process is NOT part of MAVT's (Minnesota Association of Veterinary Technicians) member fees.
