Are you interested in MVMA’s Power of Ten Leadership Program?

The Power of Ten Leadership (POTL) Program is designed to cultivate leadership capacity in recent graduates and provide learning experiences that will enrich the individual and benefit the individual’s practice, community, and profession.  It’s a way to help recent graduates answer questions like:
  • “I emerged from veterinary school and I’m in practice – but how can I get a better grasp on what makes me tick?”
  • “Now that I have a technical staff, how can I form, manage and lead an effective team?”
  • “Who am I in the bigger picture, and what can I give to my family, my community, and my profession that will be my legacy?”

The Power of Ten Leadership Program will provide ten recent graduates (graduated from a college of veterinary medicine with a DVM degree within the last ten years) with leadership development sessions over an eight-month period. We will explore personal and professional communication, financial growth, the many facets of organized veterinary medicine, and how to grow as a leader in your practice and your profession.  MVMA will provide topic experts and sessions.

For 2024, we will kick-off in February and have monthly sessions through June before a summer break. We will then finish out the program in the fall with monthly sessions starting back up in September. We will meet on Tuesday evenings with social time from 6:30-7 followed by a 2-hour interactive session centered around the evening’s topic. We encourage meeting in person when and if possible, but are flexible and accommodate a hybrid meeting format. The 2023 cohort was very hybrid focused with four greater Minnesota participants so we encourage you to join the group no matter where you live! We have started to put our schedule of topics together for the year and will have a more in-depth calendar to share soon.

Tentative Topics:

  • Personality Insights Assessment
  • Mentorship Training Financial Planning (both personal and practice)
  • Insurance Tips
  • Mental Health and Wellness Resources
  • Effective Communications Practices Within a Clinic
  • The Importance of Advocacy and Legislation
  • Understanding of Regulatory Bodies That Impact the Veterinary Profession
  • Discussion around Diversity, Equity and Inclusion within Veterinary Medicine

We anticipate that classes will also create a sense of community and participants will likely build lasting bonds with members of their program class. We have already started the creation of the 2024 schedule. Please indicate your interest or register here or call 651-645-7533 to speak to Ryan Tibbitts to find out more.
